New Order – Substance (1987) |
![]() |
Teenage Fanclub – Four Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty Seconds (2003) – This “Best Of” album is an ideal shortcut to the band that influenced Travis. |
![]() |
Powderfinger – Dream Days At The Hotel Existence (2007) - We’re off to see Powderfinger and Silverchair play at the Wellington TSB Arena tonight. Should be a cracker ! |
![]() |
Silverchair – Young Modern (2007) |
![]() |
Suede – A New Morning (2002) – I’m a fan of Suede but this is not one of their strongest albums. Not a patch on Dog Man Star and Coming Up. |
![]() |
Ray Lamontagne – Till The Sun Turns Black (2006) – Cracking album as good if not better than his debut “Trouble”. |
![]() |
Deacon Blue – Raintown (1995) |
![]() |
Counting Crows – August and Everything After (1993) |
![]() |
Johnny Cash – American V (2006) – Perhaps its because I recently turned 32 but I seem to be liking Johnny Cash albums more every year ! |
![]() |
The Enemy – We’ll Live And Die In These Towns (2007) – Newest pretenders to the Oasis crown. Not a bad debut album though with some good pub-rock tracks. |

Speaking of Manic Street Preachers, have you had a chance to hear Nicky Wire’s or James Dean Bradfield’s respective solo albums? I’ve heard they’re good, but I haven’t had an opportunity to listen to any tracks.
Oh, and I favor Arctic Monkeys’ debut over Kasabian’s.

Yeah – I’ve heard some of James Dean Bradfield’s solo stuff and can confirm it’s good. Not quite up to Manics standards but still good. To be honest I didn’t even know Nicky Wire had produced any solo material. That’ll be one I’ll have to check out although I can imagine it being a bit off the wall. He’s one crazy mo-fo !
The worst solo album I think I’ve heard recently is from Kelly Jones. I was really looking forward to it but it’s so, so bland. Don’t give up the Stereophonics day job Kelly !

Wow…Kelly Jones…solo album…isn’t that what he’s been doing all these years?
I’ll definitely have to check that out.

Listened to James Dean Bradfield’s solo album the other week. Well worth a listen I reckon. It aint gonna win any awards but is certainly better than some of the cack The Manics have put out in recent years.
