Learning to fly…..
Posted by stuandamy on November 19, 2006
Stu : Well since Amy’s last update I’m sure you’ll be pleased to hear that my cuts and bruises from last week’s vicious Oystercatcher assault have healed. Little buggers. They didn’t know what hit them when I went back on Monday morning with an air rifle……hehe.
Anyway – this weekend we decided to go on a wee trip and went to a place called Mokai Gravity Canyon. This is an adrenalin park where you can do bungy jumps, canyon jumps etc. We opted for the Flying Fox which is a 1.1km ride attached to a cable 175m above the Rangitikei River where you fly along at speeds up to 165km per hour. Basically you are strapped into a sleeping bag and pushed off the edge of the canyon. Ace eh ! We loved it. The fact that we were able to do it together made it even more fun. I’ve attached the video of our jump below so just click on the big Play button on the video to see us in action. I felt obliged to put “Up in the Sky” by Oasis over the soundtrack to drown out the noise of the profanity coming from us during the ride ! I’ve also uploaded some photos of the weekend so if you’re interested you can see them by clicking on the “All of our photos” link from the menu.
On Saturday night we stayed at a lodge called River Valley which was a cracking wee place overlooking the river (funnily enough). We were able to sit out on our balcony supping some beers as the night came in. It was awesome. Even better was that it only cost us £20 ! Loving that price. The only downside was the size of the moths……bloody massive ! I had to take refuge in our room when they started getting too close for comfort.
On Sunday we had a few casts of the rod in the river but didn’t catch anything. There’s been a lot of rain in the North Island over the last week so the river was extremely high and running way too fast to have a chance of getting anything.
Anyhoo…….we’re loving life in Wellington and the weather is even starting to take a turn for the better…..which is nice.
P.S. Amy wanted me to let you all know that she experienced her first ever earthquake on Friday. It measured 4.7 on the Richter scaled and caused her office walls to shake and her chair to move. What was really weird was that I work under a mile away and didn’t feel a thing ! I’m putting it down to the fact that she had was out on her work’s night out the previous evening ! The ‘old DTs kickin in I reckon.

Alrighty, you two are officially the maddest folk I know. So when do you plan to sleep in a glass cage full of poisonous snakes, eh?
It does seem as if you are taking full advantage of your time there. That’s great. Keep the stories coming!
Manuel.
